Veterinary Technician
Kayla Plucinski is a veterinary technician
[VET-uh-ri-NAIR-ee tek-NISH-uhn]. She is
trained to help veterinarians care for pets. Some
technicians work in clinics. They help give pets
their check-ups. Plucinski [Pluh-sin-skee] works in
the operating room. The pets she meets will stay
longer for surgeries or operations.
One of Plucinski’s first tasks of the day is
drawing each pet’s blood. It will be tested
to make sure they are healthy enough for
surgery. She helps give drugs so an
animal doesn’t feel pain during surgery.
THIS SPREAD: PROJECT STREET VET. Plucinski walks the dogs after their big Jan/Feb 2025 | 5
day. Many have come in really sick, but
now they are healed. “I like seeing them
become their normal healthy self again.”
