ovember 1 and 2 are special
days for many Mexican families.
They honor la muerte, which
means "death" in Spanish, by
building altars in honor of
friends and family who have passed on. They
decorate altars with their loved ones' photos
and favorite foods. They tell stories and
share memories of their loved ones. In
Mexican culture, death is not feared; it’s an
important part of life. The celebration is for
Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos, a
holiday that has roots a thousand years old
with the Aztec people. In the Disney Pixar
movie Coco a Mexican boy named Miguel
takes part in the festivities with his dog,
Dante, who guides him through the Land
of the Dead.
It’s believed that on Day of the Dead, THIS SPREAD: REDROVER
spirits can return to the land of the living,
invited by the altars built in their honor
