and family. Many people call the

        breed xolo (show-low).

The holiday started with the Aztec
people a thousand years ago. In the

Disney Pixar movie Coco, a boy family rescued
                                                                     Leonardo's
named Miguel takes part in the xolo Dante from a

holiday. His dog, Dante, guides him shelter. Dante loves
                                                                    to lick people's
through the Land of the Dead. faces!

        Kay Lawson works with the
        Xoloitzcuintli Club of America and

helped Pixar learn about these dogs.
        She can understand why

        the Aztec people loved them.

“They are very warm to the touch,”
Lawson says. “They will cuddle on

you.” One of her own xolo dogs
stayed next to her when she was sick.

“Now you have a buddy who protects
you and makes you feel better.”

If your family wants to bring a xolo
into your home, look for rescue

groups that know this breed. If you
look for a puppy from a breeder,

make sure they are teaching the dogs Xolos
to be around people. “And make sure at Pixar

to train the dog,” Ms. Lawson says, Watch as this xolo
because they are smart dogs who like dog tours Pixar

to do what they want. “You have to Animation Studios!
        be ready for it.”
