Critter Clues

I have been on Earth for millions of years, since the time of dinosaurs!

I am incredibly adaptable, so I live on every continent except Antarctica.

My English name comes from my Spanish name, which there is a song about!

I can hold my breath under water for 40 minutes.

When I forage, or gather, food, I bring it home in my cheek pouches to save for later.

Instead of breathing through my mouth, I breathe through tiny pores in my body segments called spiracles.

I can run very fast for an insect— up to three miles an hour!

My strong and flexible exoskeleton, the skeleton on the outside of my body, protects me from predators.
