Critter Clues

I am related to kangaroos and koala bears.

When I am scared, I “freeze.” I breathe slower and drool. Animals who might hurt me think I died. They keep walking!

When I am born, I am only the size of a bee!

I carry my babies in a pouch. That makes me a marsupial.

I eat fruits, insects, and other small animals. Sometimes I eat garbage and carrion or dead animals. Cars are dangerous to me since carrion is often found on the road.

I like to keep my fur clean, and will eat most of the ticks who come on me. This is one way I help people.
