Speak Up Like Ethan
Did you ever have a dream? Ethan Branscum’s was to make shelter pets the state animal of Kentucky. After seven years of perseverance, his idea became law in 2026! Check out his first “Humane Hero” story in the September/October 2020 issue of Kind News and one of many interviews with animal experts.
Do you have an idea to make the world better for others through a law? Talk it through with friends and family. Do research online and in books and magazines. Once you have a good idea with details, check with a grownup about writing a letter to a lawmaker.
Find your local representatives at usa.gov/elected-officials. Have your address ready.
Some things to include in your letter:
- Your name and grade
- Why you are writing
- Why the topic is important to you
- Who the idea would help and why
If you send a letter, let us know! We love to know when our Humane Heroes inspire others.
