CURIOSITY CORNER
What do
WHISKERS do?
Have you ever noticed a cat’s whiskers?
Did you know that they have 12 on each
cheek? Whiskers help a cat know what is
moving in front of them, like a mouse. A
mouse’s movement makes the air move.
The cat can feel it in their whiskers.
Whiskers help a cat go toward the
mouse, even if it is dark out. THIS PAGE: LARISIKSTEFANIA/BIGSTOCKPHOTO.COM. COVER: GRAY PHOTOGRAPHYBIGSTOCKPHOTO.COM.
A cat’s whiskers can also tell you how
they are feeling. If their whiskers are stiff,
this may mean that the cat feels scared.
If their whiskers are relaxed, the cat may
be feeling happy. Next time you see an
animal, check out those whiskers!
