Critter Clues

I like to sleep hunched up in small places – in the wild, I sleep in rock crevices to hide from predators.

I don’t sweat, so even as a pet my home should be kept at 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Instead of bathing in water, I take sand baths!

I can jump very high — sometimes more than six feet!

I am known for my soft, dense fur — I have 60-90 hairs for one follicle — an area in my skin where my hair grows from.

Since I am a prey animal in the wild, I startle easily. When I am a pet, my home should be quiet.

I communicate with others of my species with high- pitched grunts, chirps, and hiccuping noises!

My teeth never stop growing, so I need to eat a lot of hay to wear them down.
