TO THE RESCUE

      Meet Brawley

The little coyote (KY-OH-tee) was found at
someone’s home. She had been separated from her
mother. She was taken to San Diego Humane
Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center by a game warden.
A game warden’s job is to protect wild animals. “She When should

was very vocal, telling us to stay away,” says Stacey wild animal?
                                                                                     you help a
Richason, who works at the Center. “I took her outside. Visit
I talked to her like a baby, and she jumped in my lap. KindNews.org/kids.

        She knew she was loved.”

Richason spent every day with the coyote who needed
people to care for her. She named her Brawley. Now seven
years old, being with Richason is one of Brawley’s favorite COVER: WAVEBREAK3/ADOBE STOCK. THIS PAGE: SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY.
things. She also does things that wild coyotes do. “When a

motorcycle speeds by the center, she howls,” says Autumn
Welch, who also works at the Center. “Fifteen or more pups hear
her, and join in.” Welch says, “They are learning how to be coyotes.

They are learning how to live in the wild.”

someone helped them? What can you do if you find
