HUMANE HERO
When Reed Peachey joined
Beta Club, a group of
student leaders who serve
others, he would need to give his time as a
volunteer. Finding a good cause was easy! His cat,
Carrot (who he named after the shape of his tail)
was rescued as a tiny kitten by the Beesley Animal
Foundation in Tennessee where Reed lives. “He

became part of the family right away,” he says.
Reed — now in 7th grade — works on Beesley’s
outreach program to help pets and people get the
food they need. He takes large bags of dog and cat
food and separates them into smaller bags. They
can then be shared throughout the community. The
packages that Reed makes are sent to food banks,
churches, and senior centers. People there receive Many need pet food, too. Without it, they would

is to make sure people and animals both get the
healthy food they need.
After Reed is done packing food, he always
takes a walk to see the cats at Beesley’s animal
clinic. “That’s my payment, seeing the cats,” he
says. “A lot of them will meow at me and rub
against the cage.”
His advice to other students who want
to help those people and pets in need?
“You can donate pet food to animal
groups or clinics. You can do volunteer
work, too.”
Beesley Animal Foundation, where Reed volunteers, raises money
to bring Kind News magazine to thousands of children every year!
