BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Helping Children with Grief FROM PAGE 2
It is important to let children express their feelings to help them process. Children’s books about grieving can help you have a
conversation with your children about how the characters in the story feel and how this is the same or different from how
they feel. For books about the loss of pets, visit RedRover.org/books. Expressing your own sadness or other emotions over
the loss of the pet can help model the expression of feelings. Avoid using euphemisms like “put to sleep.” Kids take things
literally, and that phrase could be scary. For more information about helping children with loss, visit:

Learning Through Play FROM PAGE 4

Research in the field of developmental psychology indicates that children develop and learn primarily through play. The
RedRover Readers program and The Restricted Adventures of Raja app provide the following types of learning through
play. For more about the importance of learning through play, visit legofoundation.com.
